Thingstream VP Business Development, Neil Hamilton looks back at a very busy and productive year powered by partnerships and looks forward to more of the same but on a larger scale.
As 2018 comes to an end, we have been reflecting on the significant milestones that we have achieved at Thingstream, which have set us up for even greater success in 2019. The most important factor is that the successes of 2018 have been you; our customers and partners.
The ‘T’ of ‘IoT’ should be for ‘Team’ not ‘Things’. Without technical and commercial collaboration, end customers simply cannot bring a solution to market.
We have been focused on developing meaningful relationships with companies who between them, can provide all aspects of an end-to-end IoT solution – from suppliers and manufacturers of chipsets, GSM modules, and batteries, through to CEM’s and hardware distributors as well as software providers, systems integrators and consultants. To deliver a successful IoT prototype or production solution, all of these ‘components’ need to come together as a team to enable success.

Working with the expert team at Pathfindr, our low-power, low-cost, global connectivity has been recognized as the ideal solution for new business lines within Rolls Royce Power Systems. This credibility has led to us working closely with Pathfindr to help other global industrial brands who have assets which need monitoring around the world under battery power.
Digital Twin, a team of connected industry experts, has brought to market a modular IoT solution utilizing a Thingstream Ready multipurpose IoT gateway which is delivered to end customers with an appropriate vertical market software and analytics solution. Richard and the team are super busy with a range of pilots and live customer deployments, however, have also had their IoT gateway, known as ‘the Pigeon’, pass our Thingstream Ready certification process and are now able to provide these to other partners within our ecosystem.
Siucom is a young IoT solution provider based in Guatemala, representing Thingstream in the Central American region where IoT is being adopted in a broad range of vertical industries including smart cities, logistics, and security. The knowledgeable and hands-on team are involved in some major projects and have helped Thingstream perfect our Sales Lead Referral process so that we can smoothly submit a steady flow of qualified opportunities to them to service in the region.
Outside of customers and partners, we also achieved an important milestone with becoming recognized as a credible LPWAN IoT option; a worthy competitor to NB-IoT, LTE Cat1M, LoRa and SigFox in the eyes of the key IoT analysts in our market.
Following our debut outing to IoT Solutions World Congress this year, one of the key analyst houses based in Germany said some kind words in our favor which our whole team is proud of:
Earlier in the year, we began working with our partners to bring the first Thingstream Ready devices to market.
This FREE OF CHARGE certification means that devices can connect anywhere in the world without the complexities of dealing with cellular data. The device is also visualized within our Data Flow Manager as a known MQTT-SN capable device with a custom ‘Flow’ already assigned to it to make connecting the data from the device through to a customer’s IoT platform of choice super easy – and powerful.

Across the year we’ve had many requests for alternative plans to our simple $1.00 for 10k MQTT messages plan. Many solutions only require daily or weekly messaging so we introduced lower volume plans to cater for low volume message use csses. To this end, our development team has been hard at work implementing the next iteration of our billing engine which has enabled us to deliver 6 new pricing plans for our 2 flagship services, MQTT Anywhere and MQTT Now. In addition to Philipp Bolliger, who joined us as CEO in August and delivered a fantastic introductory presentation at this year’s IoT Solutions World Congress, we have expanded our team overall. We have our first dedicated country Sales Director based in South Africa, who is hard at work building out a local team and ecosystem in the region. We also have a new EMEA Partner Development Director and an expanded marketing team with more hires coming in 2019.
With such a professional and motivated team, and focusing on our partners’ success, 2019 is going to be an enormous year for Thingstream.
